I Do, We Do, You Do: a Confidence Builder

I Do, We Do, You Do: a Confidence Builder
Moments of stress (hello getting ready for a trip) can be managed with "I do, we do, you do." Image | Vlada Karpovich

A simple high-impact model for helping kids of all ages get unstuck.

My 19-year-old daughter is a collector: plants, empty bottles that can hold plants, tools for tending plants, hair clips, albums, cosmetics, earrings, things that can hold earrings, books, candles, crystals, thrift store finds, yarn and other knitting gear, art supplies, dad sweaters, sewing supplies, rings, things that can hold rings, vintage purses, fuzzy socks, photography gear, scented soaps, and vintage canvas tote bags. These things are all in her room along with the stuff of everyday life and things she's held onto from her younger years.

On the one hand, she loves all her stuff. On the other hand, all her stuff can feel overwhelming.

When she was younger, we helped her corral her collections and clean her space by practicing a strategy called "I do, we do, you do."
